The Film
A contest in a parking lot. A portrait of a country.
In the summer heat of Longview, Texas, twenty-four people gather under a tent at Jack Long Nissan for an endurance contest with one rule: keep a hand on a brand-new Nissan pickup. The last person still standing, hand on the truck, drives it home.
As the hours stretch into days, exhaustion, faith, strategy, humor, and heartbreak strip the contest down to something larger. What begins as a dealership promotion becomes a portrait of American ambition, and of what people will endure for a chance at something better.
Shot in 1995 and released in 1997, it has become one of the most quoted documentaries ever made.
